Bilbus the Great awakened slowly. The stone floor upon which he had slept was uncomfortable, but there had been nowhere to tie his hammock the previous evening.

Lord Sir Kasey Bittrand's Londoun home was in one of the nicer sections of that sprawling city. Many wealthy merchants lived in the area, as did other minor nobles who did not jostle for favor in the King's courts -- those nobles bickered over houses closer to the King's castle.

Bilbus leaned against the wall of the tunnel, still gasping from the exertion of creating the magickal shield. He looked out at the larger hall and the dwarven army arrayed there. "Can we get out of here? That shield will not last long if the orcs have mages, and it won't stop arrows."

The sky was already turning blue. Some of the upper stories of taller buildings were already bathed in the brilliant light of the sun, but the smaller buildings and the streets were still in shadow. The bustle of a city waking was already gaining momentum as the last vestiges of night were chased from the sky above.

The party left shortly after first light the following morning. They rode south out of Llwelyn, following a road near the Chuthaim River on a clear winter's day. The sun glinted off of chunks of ice floating in the river, and gave the snowy fields to the east of the road a harsh white glare. The snow had melted away from the road, leaving a messy patchwork of mud, puddles, and the rare dry stretches.

Breanna stammered, "Seven... seventy-five hundred? Over seven thousand orcs? We've got to go! We can't stay here!" She scurried back to her horse and started untying the reins.

The party had parted company with Sir Atenburg a few days earlier. The road to Arabel Cinlu was another of the Via Avillonia, the ancient stone roadways that connected all of the larger cities in the Kelltic regions of Avillonia. The stretch of Via from Llwelyn to Arabel Cinlu was in fair condition, since most of the traffic along the route was merchant caravans. The land was sparsely populated, and the few towns and villages along the way maintained only that section of road within their city limits. During the winter months, there was little to no road traffic, and the party had passed the time talking and riding several abreast across the entire road.

The following morning greeted the party with a deep blue sky sparsely populated with white clouds. The sun had yet to rise above the steep eastern wall of the Arabel Cinlu valley, but it was already lighting the tops of the western peaks.

Once back to Twin Saddles, Bilbus walked to the door of Lord Nighvass's manor and pounded on it. After a few moments, one of the servants answered.

Bilbus strode proudly back into the church. Some of his companions had taken seats on the benches. Adria still stood, tapping one foot silently. She glanced at Bilbus and nearly choked.

The Bard's Hearth sailed southeast across the Brythomar, far enough out to sea that the shore was a hazy shadow on the horizon far to the left. The crew worked busily on the deck, carefully avoiding the very front of the forecastle, where Farran stood, facing towards the front, watching who-knew-what, as the chilly breeze blew over him. The sun was low to the horizon behind and to the right of the ship, casting long shadows as it slipped closer to the sea.

Bilbus thanked the professor and excused himself and his comrades. The party went back down the stairs and out of the building.

Dreamlands Day Two

The afternoon proved to be as pleasant as the morning had promised. As the carriage followed the merchant caravan down the road, just a few dozen paces from the River Skai, birds called cheerfully from trees along the river banks. All around the carriage were fields of vibrant greens with brilliantly colorful flowers. Small game animals grazed in the fields, unmindful of the noisy creaks of the heavily-laden merchant wagons.
