There are a number of sentient species inhabiting Oerth.  The majority of these species are not native to Oerth, but have, instead, migrated to Oerth from the other inhabited worlds of the solar system - the Morning Star, the Evening Star, Phaeree, and even the Sun.  Humans interact with many of them to some extent, but some races prefer to be left completely alone.

  • {ln:Human 'Humans} are the most common race on Oerth.  They are also the only truly native race.  There are a number of sub-races of humans, generally categorized by coloration and minor physical differences.
  • {ln:Bugbear 'Bugbears} are giant bear-faced warriors of the Unseelie Court.
  • {ln:Centaur 'Centaurs} are part man, part horse creatures.  A number of tribes of them are found on the Nomad Steppes of Avillonia.
  • {ln:Deep One 'Deep Ones} are frog-like man-sized bipeds found in the Vasmar.
  • {ln:Dragon 'Dragons} are enormous flying creatures capable of breathing magickal fire.  They are natives of Phaeree, but a few dozen of them migrated to remote locales on Oerth.  Most known dragons have settled in the Drachenterre of Avillonia, where they will attack ships sailing the Mariner's Valley.
  • {ln:Dwarf 'Dwarves} were once a native race of Phaeree, but they migrated to Oerth millennia ago, settling initially in Avillonia's Heaven's Comb Mountains.  Since the {ln:Dwarven Diaspora}, they can be found in a number of cities in Avillonia.
  • {ln:Elf 'Elves} are the most well-known of the Phaeree races, and the most common in the Kelltic lands.  There are a number of sub-races of elves, with different coloring and physical attributes.
  • {ln:Gnome 'Gnomes} are a rare Phaeree race on Oerth.  They are related to dwarves, but they did not migrate en masse to Oerth like their cavern-dwelling cousins did.
  • {ln:Kelpie 'Kelpies} are horse-like aquatic predators found in the Vasmar.
  • {ln:Ogre 'Ogres} are large, brutish creatures found in extremely remote regions of Oerth.  They prefer mountainous lands, and most of them have been encountered on the edges of the Drachenterre in Avillonia.
  • {ln:Orc 'Orcs} are the second most common Phaeree race found on Oerth.  Countless thousands were abandoned by the Dark One after the {ln:Fall of Camelough}.  Many of them organized into new Tribes, settling within the unclaimed wilds of Avillonia.
  • {ln:Ruby Merchant 'Ruby Merchants} are mysterious three-foot tall non-human merchants.
  • {ln:Shadow Kindred 'Shadow Kindred} are malevolent entities from the Evening Star, afflicted with the magickal changes that ruined their own worlds.  They are never encountered on Oerth, except when in the employ of the Dark One.  After the {ln:Battle of as-Tikat}, the surviving Shadow Kindred left Oerth.
  • {ln:Shoganthri 'Shoganthri} are survivors from the Morning Star who fled to Oerth shortly after the Fall of Camelough, when their own world was devastated by a malevolent god-thing.  They have had minimal contact with other Oerth dwellers.
  • {ln:Solarian 'Solarians} are a race native to the Sun.  They are extremely rare on Oerth, usually visiting for a few minutes by way of a {ln:Gates 'Gate} from their homelands.  It is the Solarian that gave rise to the legends of the phoenix.
